It only takes an hour to deliver approximately 8 to 10 meals to people in need in Fort Dodge. Starting a delivery team is easy and it’s a great volunteer opportunity for you, your group or company and you will make a difference in the lives of seniors and those with disabilities in our community.

How much time will my group spend delivering meals?

Your route will involve approximately one hour of delivery time plus your time travelling to and from Hy-Vee.

How many people does it take to start a Workplace/Group Delivery Team?

It only takes 2 people to start. Teams vary in size from 2 to 10. We recommend 2 people per route so your team can adopt one route 2 people) or all 5 routes (10 people) for the week.

How often do teams deliver meals?

Teams deliver meals one week Monday through Friday. Your turn comes up once every eight weeks. See our volunteer calendar tab for examples.

How long does it take to deliver meals?

Delivery routes are designed to take no longer than one hour. We recommend delivering with a partner – a driver and someone to run the meals to the door.

Who organizes a Workplace/Group Delivery Team?

It works best to designate a team leader who is the main point of contact for your group. Your team leader will recruit and schedule volunteers for your groups delivery week. This person will also be the liaison between your group and Meals on Wheels.

Will I deliver meals with co-worker or member of my group?

Yes, delivery teams work in groups of two so you will definitely work together.

What if employees or group members can’t deliver meals as scheduled?

The beauty of Workplace /Group Delivery Teams is another team member can step in and sub if someone in your group can’t deliver. If you can’t fill the spot contact Meals on Wheels ((515) 570-0965) in advance so arrangements can be made for additional help.
