info
Delivering meals is a rewarding way to help seniors and those in need in our community receive a hot meal and a daily visit from a friendly face. It’s easy to do and can be done over your lunch hour. All you need to do is complete our volunteer form and we will be in touch with you. You can volunteer to deliver as an individual, with a friend, with group or with your company. You will be assigned to a route for one week (Monday through Friday) and your turn will come up once every eight weeks.
Sign up today and know you’ll make an impact on the lives of recipients in our community. Clients and their families are very grateful for volunteers who take time out of their busy schedule to deliver meals. See the list of frequently asked questions or call Barb at (515) 570-0965.

How do I sign up to volunteer for Meals on Wheels?
Fill out the online volunteer form or call Barb at (515) 570-0965.
How does a typical volunteer delivery shift work?
Volunteers drive to Hy-Vee deli no later than 10:50am, pick up approximately 10 meals stored in an insulated carry bag, and deliver them to residences using a route sheet provided in the delivery bag. Once your route is finished, you will return the bag to the Hy-Vee deli.
How long does it take to deliver meals?
Delivery routes are designed to take no longer than one hour. We recommend delivering with a partner – a driver and someone to run the meals to the door.
When are meals delivered?
Meals are delivered between 11:00a.m. and 12:30pm Monday through Friday. There is no meal delivery on days Fort Dodge schools are closed due to snow.
How often will I deliver meals?
Volunteers deliver meals one week Monday through Friday. Your turn comes up once every eight weeks. See our volunteer calendar tab for examples.
Can I volunteer with a friend or with a group?
Delivering meals is a great social activity. We have several church groups and workplace groups. To learn more about how to start a workplace , church or other group delivery team click here or contact Barb for more information at info@mealsonwheelsfd.com or (515) 570-0965.
Will another volunteer come with me on my route?
We recommend two people per deliver team. It helps make the delivery go a little quicker. If you do not have someone interested in delivering with you let s know and we’ll help you find a partner.
What happens during each delivery?
Volunteers bring the meal to each recipient’s door. One of the benefits of delivering is visiting briefly with recipient’s but it is important to keep visits brief so you can complete your route in time. If your recipient does not answer or you find they need help please contact Barb immediately (515) 570-0965.
